Malpelo is sure one of the most breathtaking experiences a diver may have. If not the most breathtaking one. At our knowledge, no other place around the world offers wildlife diving in an as remote and pristine place. A PURE delight !
Malpelo looks like a lonely rock in the middle of nowhere. Which it basicly is. But it is far more than that. It is one of the rare places around the world where the presence of men has not destroyed everything. It's a heaven for all kinds of wildlife in the middle of the ocean. This unique place seems to be the ideal place for all pelagic life to rest, and probably also to live.
Thirty-six hours of navigation are required from the closest land to get to this volcanic underwater plateau topped with a rocky island with few other small pinnacles around. Only two ships visit the island regularly, as this destination is a challenging one, far from the comfort of one's living room. Strong currents and surge, thermoclines, wind and rain makes the diving here a real adventure. Only thorougly motivated divers really want to make this trip and get the reward of discovering a new world one could barely imagine.
